Just before noon on October 6, we received an urgent plea to go rescue a dog that was found in Rocky Mount, NC in someone's yard hiding under a trailer. One of our volunteers jumped into action to go get this dog. Had it not been a joint effort between Promoting Animal Welfare in NC and our Maggie Society volunteers, there is no telling what would have happened to this sweet soul. Here are the initial pictures we received. After getting her into the Emergency Vet's office in Wilson, she immediately won the hearts of everyone that came in contact with. She was so thankful to have the cone off and wanted nothing more than human companionship and a loving touch. Below are the pictures from EC Vets. The update from Laurie, President and Founder of The Maggie Society, came around 1:30pm on October 5:
The puppy in the cone is now named Anna Christi (after two strong women including Christi who rushed to her rescue!), she is at EV Vets in Wilson. She is not in good shape but is receiving excellent care including fluids and antibiotics for a raging skin infection, extreme demodex mange, blistered skin, has many cuts and scrapes and one of her legs seems to have been bound by a cord and she is emaciated and severely dehydrated. Thank you to Shelley Milburn and the folks at PAWNC for this tag team rescue effort! Anna Christi may have had a rocky start, but she is so blessed to have such an outstanding community to rally to her rescue. In a world that can be full of contention and division, it’s so wonderful to see that people can come together to help a pup in need! Thanks to each of you and stay tuned for updates! To donate to her care, please go to www.themaggiesociety.com and click on the donate button. Please note: any donations that are given that exceed the cost of direct medical care for Anna Christi will go towards the vet care and treatment of other dogs in our program.
